تَنَفَّستُ إِذْ قَبَّلتُ وَجنَةَ فاتِني

تَنَفَّستُ إِذْ قَبَّلتُ وَجنَةَ فاتِني

فَبانَ بِها خالٌ وَكانَت بِلا خالِ

فَبانَ بِها خالٌ وَكانَت بِلا خالِ

I sighed when I kissed my charmer’s cheek;

When I kissed the cheek of a charming lady

so a mole appeared on it, though it had been without one.

A mole appeared that was not there before

وَلا بِدْعَ أَن يَسوَدَّ بَعضٌ بِلَمسَتي

وَلا بِدْعَ أَن يَسوَدَّ بَعضٌ بِلَمسَتي

أَمَا اِسوَدَّ بِعضُ البدرِ مِن لَمس جبرالِ

أَمَا اِسوَدَّ بِعضُ البدرِ مِن لَمس جبرالِ

And it is no wonder that a part should turn black at my touch:

It's no wonder some darkening occurred from my touch

did not part of the full moon turn black from Gabriel’s touch?

Did not part of the full moon darken from touching Gabriel?
