قُلتُI said لِلغُصينِto the little branch قامَةًin stature وَاِعتِدالاand poise
مِلْbend لِصَبٍّtoward a lovesick man فيin الحبِّlove صارَbecame قتيلَكْone slain by you
I said to the one like a little branch in stature and poise:
I said to the branch, standing tall and upright,
“Bend toward a lovesick man who, in love, has been slain by you.
"Why, for a youth in love, have you become slain?
وهَواهand his passion أرادsought ميلَكyour bending قَسْراًby force
وَهوَand he أَضحىhas come to يريدهhe wants it أَنto يُميلَكmake you bend
And his passion sought to force you to bend,
His passion wanted your bend by force,
and he now wants it to make you bend.”
And now he wishes you would bend to him."
قالَhe said ليto me أَنتَyou وَالهَوىand the passion فيكwithin you ريحٌa wind
قلتI said شَأنيmy aim ياO غُصنُbranch أَنto أَستَميلكI sway you
He said to me, “You and the passion within you are a wind.”
It said to me, "You and the love in you are a gust of wind.
I said, “My aim, O branch, is to sway you.”
My way, O branch, is to bend to you."
