خَبَأتكَI hid you فيin عَينيmy eye وَأَطبقتand I closed جفنَهاits eyelid
خَبَأتكَ في عَيني وَأَطبقت جفنَها
عَلىover حُسنِكَyour beauty الباهيradiant وَهِمتُand I was enamored بِهِof it وَجداwith passionate longing
عَلى حُسنِكَ الباهي وَهِمتُ بِهِ وَجدا
I hid you in my eye and closed its lid
I hid you in my eye and closed its lid
upon your radiant beauty; and I was passionately enamored of it.
Over your radiant beauty, and was passionately enamored of it.
وَداوَمتand I maintained غمضَclosure العَينِthe eye حِفظاًfor protection لِمَنfor the one بهاwithin it
وَداوَمت غمضَ العَينِ حِفظاً لِمَن بها
فَإِنso if فَتحتI opened بِالسهوِinadvertently أَطبقتهاI closed it عَمداdeliberately
فَإِن فَتحت بِالسهوِ أَطبقتها عَمدا
I kept the eye closed, to safeguard the one within it;
And I kept my eye closed to protect the one within it;
if it opened by mistake, I closed it on purpose.
So if I opened it inadvertently, I closed it deliberately.
