أَناI الكَئيبُthe sorrowful one الّذيwho لَيلاًat night يُراعيwatches النَّجمthe star
أَنا الكَئيبُ الّذي لَيلاً يُراعي النَّجم

وَظَل هايِم وَيرعَى في الجَبالِ النّجم
I am the sorrowful one who watches the star at night,
I am the melancholic one who at night tends the star,
And has remained a lovesick wanderer, grazing on herbage in the mountains.
And roams lost, tending in the mountains the star.
أَقسَمتI swore بِالشّمسby the sun بَدريmy full moon وَالقَمرand the moon وَالنّجمand the star
أَقسَمت بِالشّمس بَدري وَالقَمر وَالنّجم
أَنّكthat you فَريدِunrivaled المَحاسِنbeautiful qualities وَالبَهاand splendor وَالظّرفand grace
أَنّك فَريدِ المَحاسِن وَالبَها وَالظّرف
I swore by the sun, O my full moon, and by the moon and the star,
I swear by the sun, my moon, the star,
That you are unrivaled in beauty, splendor, and grace,
That you are unique in beauty, and grace, and charm,
وَالبَدرand the full moon عَبدَكyour servant وَلَكِنّكand yet you تَسمّىare called النّجمthe Star
وَالبَدر عَبدَك وَلَكِنّك تَسمّى النّجم
And the full moon is your servant, yet you are called the Star.
The full moon is your slave, yet you are called a star.
