حُسَينHusayn حَباهُfavored him إِلهُGod of السّماheaven
حُسَين حَباهُ إِلهُ السّما
وَمَنَّand bestowed favor عَليهِupon him بِنَجلٍwith a son حَميدْpraiseworthy
وَمَنَّ عَليهِ بِنَجلٍ حَميدْ
Husayn—the God of heaven has graced him,
The God of heaven favored Husayn
and graciously bestowed on him a praiseworthy son,
and blessed him with a praiseworthy son.
يَعيشُhe lives رَشيداًrightly guided وَيَحياand lives سَعيداًhappily
يَعيشُ رَشيداً وَيَحيا سَعيداً
بِعَيشٍwith a life رَغيدٍprosperous وَعُمرٍand a lifespan مَديدlong
بِعَيشٍ رَغيدٍ وَعُمرٍ مَديد
who shall live rightly guided and live happily,
May he live rightly guided and happily,
in comfort and ease, for many long years.
with a prosperous life and a long lifespan.
يَنالُhe attains الفَلاحَsuccess بِخَيرِthrough the goodness of الصّلاحuprightness
يَنالُ الفَلاحَ بِخَيرِ الصّلاح
وَحُسنِand the excellence of النّجاحِachievement بِرأيٍthrough judgment سَديدsound
وَحُسنِ النّجاحِ بِرأيٍ سَديد
He shall attain prosperity through the best of righteousness,
May he attain success through virtuous uprightness
and splendid success through sound judgment.
and fine achievement through sound judgment.
وَدامَand may he continue يُقَرُّto be gladdened عيوناًin the eyes أَبوهُhis father
وَدامَ يُقَرُّ عيوناً أَبوهُ
وَنَفساًand in soul يَطيبُtakes delight بِهذاin this الوَليدnewborn
وَنَفساً يَطيبُ بِهذا الوَليد
May his father long continue to gladden eyes,
And may his father’s eyes ever be gladdened,
and rejoice at heart in this newborn child.
and his soul delight in this newborn.
وَبُشرىand glad tidings حُسينHusayn أَتاهcame to him كَماjust as
وَبُشرى حُسين أَتاه كَما
وَأَرِّخand mark the date يوَدُّis loved غلامa boy سَعيدhappy
وَأَرِّخ يوَدُّ غلام سَعيد
And Husayn’s glad tidings came to him just as
And glad tidings came to Husayn, just as
—date it thus—“a happy boy wishes.”
—and mark the date—a happy boy is loved.
