قَدindeed زارَنيvisited me لَيلَةًone night غابَتhad vanished كَواكِبُهاits stars
وَأَسبَلَتand let fall فيin دُجاهاits darkness ثَوبَa robe دَيجورِof pitch-black gloom
He visited me on a night whose stars had vanished,
Night visited me, its stars were veiled
and which, in its darkness, had let fall a robe of pitch-black gloom.
And it draped itself in its dark garb
فَخِلتُso I thought شَمسَthe sun الضُّحىof midmorning مِنfrom ضَوءِthe radiance وَجنتهِof his cheek
قَدindeed أَسفَرَتshone forth تَملأfilling الأرجاءَthe surroundings بالنورِwith light
So, from his cheek's radiance, I thought the midmorning sun
So I missed the radiant visage of the brilliant dawn
had shone forth, filling every quarter with light.
That fills the horizons with light
وَقَدand indeed حَبانيbestowed on me دَنانيراًdinars قَدِalready اِنتَثَرتhad scattered
مِنfrom كَفِّهِhis palm فَتَبدَّتْso they appeared خَيرَthe finest مَنثورِof things strewn
And he bestowed on me dinars that had scattered
It rained golden coins on me, scattered
from his palm, appearing as the finest of scattered things.
From its hand, the best scattered riches
فَفيso in السَّماءِthe sky النُّجومُthe stars الزُّهْرُradiant قَدindeed ظَهَرَتappeared
وَقَدand indeed زَهَتshone resplendently وَهيَwhile they تبديdisplay رقصَthe dance مَسرورِof one delighted
Then the radiant stars appeared in the sky,
In the sky, the stars blossomed into flowers
and shone resplendently, displaying the dance of one delighted.
Swaying joyfully in their dance
تِلكَthose الدنانيرُthe dinars لاno شكٌّdoubt ولاand no ريبٌmisgiving
عَينُthe very same as النُّجومِthe stars بِتَعريفٍwith definiteness وَتَنكيرِand indefiniteness
Those dinars, without doubt or misgiving,
Those golden coins, no doubt or question
are the very stars, in definite and indefinite forms.
Are the eyes of the stars, named and defined
إِنَّindeed السَّماءَthe sky كَمِرآةٍlike a mirror بِهاin it اِنطَبَعتwere imprinted
تِلكَthose النُّجومُthe stars مِثالاًas a likeness للدّنانيرِof the dinars
Indeed, the sky is like a mirror in which were imprinted
Surely the sky is a mirror in which are reflected
those stars, as a likeness of the dinars.
Those stars, exemplars of golden coins
