God bless you, noble man, mighty and honored!

And what a charging hero, a mighty lion, a fierce lion!

You charge against your enemies in every battle,

So your enemies take you for a vast army.

You draw a keen Yemeni sword against your enemies,

And thrust at them with a sharp, brown-shafted spear.

The lions of the forest flee from you in fear,

And regret meeting you with the deepest regret.

For you give them a draught of terror,

Like poison spreading through them, destroying and annihilating.

You went to meet the army of Jilliq,

Assailing them with the onslaught of a lion,

With an army of five divisions, like ravening lions,

Its plunge into battle the most forceful.

Among them are a ravening lion and another charging,

Whose claws on battle day remain unclipped.

He charges on a noble steed, white-blazed and white-socked,

Lean-flanked, swift, purebred, and powerfully built.

And you faced the army of al-Sham, while war in its midst

Raged at full strength, its furnace blazing.

And you cast every terror into their entrails,

So Umm Mildam—fever—appeared upon their limbs.

And you inflicted plunder, captivity, and death upon it,

And won from it spoils—what splendid spoils!

And indeed you drove all its captives like sheep

To spacious Acre, endowed with preeminence,

By the breaths of the forest lion, the mighty lion of Shara,

And the valor of the forest lions, every stalwart defender—

The most exalted vizier among all mankind,

To whom honor, like lofty rank, belongs—by God!

Glory's brother, Abdullah, sun of the exalted,

And truly their honor, beyond any doubt.

May his Lord sustain his support and victory,

And may he triumph over every fierce lion among his foes.

And now you have returned to Acre bearing spoils,

And you are serene of eye, your smile plain to see,

In a procession of honor without equal,

With a cheerful face aglow, its mouth smiling.

And all creation said to you in serenity and joy:

Your coming to Acre is the finest of arrivals!

I congratulate you on what you won, O glory of nobility,

With pearls of verse strung with rhetorical art.

And remain in God's keeping—exalted be His majesty—

With enduring glory and honor, and remain safe,

For all time, as long as the hills' collared dove sings,

And pours forth the sweetest melody in its warbling.
