Behold, the rose's superiority in beauty is evident
Behold, the rose's merit for its beauty is clear
Over every flower; it is never denied through the ages.
Above all other flowers none in time can compare

Beauty is its attribute, for it is red;
Its beauty being red is the trait for which it is known
Both eyes delight in it, and beauty is red.
Eyes are delighted, for beauty itself is red alone
