أَلاbehold إِنّماonly الأُستاذُthe master فيin الفَضلِexcellence صالِحٌSalih (also: virtuous)
فَسَلِّمْso assent لِماto what يُبديhe sets forth وَسالِمْand make peace وَصالِحِand reconcile
Behold, in excellence the master is none but Salih.
Indeed, the teacher excels in virtue
So assent to what he sets forth, make peace, and reconcile.
So submit to what he says, be peaceful and virtuous

Both eyes delight in him, in beauty and speech,
The eyes are delighted by his eloquence and good speech
And in teaching and scholarly inquiry, through excellent counsel.
His lessons, analysis, and good advice
وَلاand no غَروَwonder إِنif قَرَّتْhave found delight بِذاكَin that عُيونُناour eyes
فَماfor … not قَرَّتِhave found delight العَينانِthe two eyes إِلّاexcept بِصالِحِin Salih
And no wonder if our eyes have found delight in that,
No wonder our eyes are content with that
For both eyes have found delight only in Salih.
For the eyes are only pleased by what is good
