وَمُختَضبِand one dyed اليَدَيْنِthe two hands بَداappeared بِقَدٍّwith a figure
وَمُختَضبِ اليَدَيْنِ بَدا بِقَدٍّ
كَغُصْنِlike a bough of البانِthe bān tree مَيّاسٍswaying رَشيقِgraceful
كَغُصْنِ البانِ مَيّاسٍ رَشيقِ
And one with dyed hands appeared, with a figure
Like a swaying, graceful bough of the bān tree.
يَلوحُhe gleams وَفيand in يَدَيْهِhis two hands خَمْرُwine of كَأسٍa cup
يَلوحُ وَفي يَدَيْهِ خَمْرُ كَأسٍ
لِيَشْرَبَهاso he may drink it رَحيقاًnectar كَالعَقيقِlike carnelian
لِيَشْرَبَها رَحيقاً كَالعَقيقِ
He gleams, with a cup of wine in his hands,
To drink it—a nectar like carnelian.
كَأَنَّas though يَدَيْهِhis two hands وَالصّهْباand the reddish wine وفاهُand his mouth
كَأَنَّ يَدَيْهِ وَالصّهْبا وفاهُ
شَقيقٌan anemone فيwithin شقيقٍan anemone فيwithin شَقيقِan anemone
شَقيقٌ في شقيقٍ في شَقيقِ
As though his hands, the wine, and his mouth
Were an anemone within an anemone within an anemone.
