وَبي ناعِسُ الأَجفانِ مِن خَمرَةِ الكَرى

وَبي ناعِسُ الأَجفانِ مِن خَمرَةِ الكَرى

لَهُ أَخَذَت عَيني عَلى جِهَةِ الدَّينِ

لَهُ أَخَذَت عَيني عَلى جِهَةِ الدَّينِ

And I am smitten with one whose eyelids droop from the wine of slumber;

for his sake, my eye borrowed sleep on credit.

My eye had taken it on loan for him.

فَقالَ الكرى حَقّي بِهِ حَكَم الهوَى

فَقالَ الكرى حَقّي بِهِ حَكَم الهوَى

فَقُلت لَهُ صِدقاً فَقُم خُذهُ مِن عَيني

فَقُلت لَهُ صِدقاً فَقُم خُذهُ مِن عَيني

Then Slumber said, “Love has awarded me my claim to him.”

He said, “Slumber is my due; Love has decreed it.”

I answered, “True—then rise and take him from my eye.”

I said to him, “Truly—then rise and take it from my eye.”
