وَما وَسمَ البارودُ للضرِّ وَجهَه

وَما وَسمَ البارودُ للضرِّ وَجهَه

وَقَد كانَ لِلبارودِ فيهِ فراسةُ

وَقَد كانَ لِلبارودِ فيهِ فراسةُ

And gunpowder did not mark his face to harm him;

The gunpowder did not scar his face with harm

And indeed, the gunpowder had insight into him.

Though the gunpowder possessed insight into him

وما قَصدُه إِلّا اِطّلاعُ عِداتِه

وما قَصدُه إِلّا اِطّلاعُ عِداتِه

عَلى وَجهِهِ تَبدو عَلَيهِ الشَّجاعَةُ

عَلى وَجهِهِ تَبدو عَلَيهِ الشَّجاعَةُ

And its purpose was only for his enemies to look

Its intent was but to display its prowess

Upon his face, on which courage is manifest.

On his face could bravery be seen
