وَغَزال صادَني وَهوَ نافِرْ

وَغَزال صادَني وَهوَ نافِرْ

وَلِعَقلي لَحظُه كانَ ساحِرْ

وَلِعَقلي لَحظُه كانَ ساحِرْ

And a gazelle caught me even as he fled.

A gazelle approached while still shy

And his glance was an enchanter of my mind.

Its glances enchanted my mind

لَهف قَلبي إِنّ حِبِّي بِهَجر

لَهف قَلبي إِنّ حِبِّي بِهَجر

شاءَ كَرب الصبِّ مِن غَيرِ آخِر

شاءَ كَرب الصبِّ مِن غَيرِ آخِر

Alas for my heart! Indeed, my beloved, through abandonment,

My heart yearned, though my love was aloof

Willed endless anguish for the lovesick lover.

Fate willed this agony without end
