Within which dreaming images ripple.

Stirring in it dreaming images

Where dreaming images ripple and flow,

ويا قصة بث فيها الوجود

ويا قصة بث فيها الوجود

ماعني السمو بروع الحياة

ماعني السمو بروع الحياة

And O tale in which existence sowed

And a story in which existence related

And O story into which Existence has infused

The meanings of sublimity in life's heart.

What it means to aspire to the glory of life

The meanings of transcendence through life’s magnificence,

ويا صفحة خط فيها البقا

بنار ونور وجهاد الاباة

بنار ونور وجهاد الاباة

And O page on which eternity wrote

And a page on which permanence wrote

And O page where Immortality has inscribed,

With fire and light and the struggle of the unbowed.

With fire, light and the struggle of determination

With fire, and light, and the struggle of the proud,

ويا للبطولات تغزو الدنا

ويا للبطولات تغزو الدنا

وتلهمها القيم الخالدات

And O feats of heroism that conquer the worlds

And beauty placed its culmination in her,

And beauty found its end in it

And where Beauty cast down its final anchor,

So we were enthralled by her alluring mysteries.

And we understood its charming mysteries

So we became enamored with its captivating secrets,

واهوى على قدميها الزمان

فاهوى على قدميها الطغاة

فاهوى على قدميها الطغاة

And Time bowed down at her feet,

And time swooped down upon its feet

And Time itself fell prostrate at her feet,

So the tyrants bowed down at her feet.

And tyrants swooped down upon its feet

Just as tyrants fell prostrate at her feet.

شغلنا الورى وملأنا الدنا

بشعر نرتله كالصلاة

We captivated humankind and filled the worlds

It occupied the world and filled the universe

We have busied the world and filled the earth,

تسابيحه من حنايا الجزائر

Algeria, O marvel of the Originator,

Algeria, O masterpiece of the Creator,

And O splendor of the all-powerful Maker,

And magnificence of the Omnipotent

Harut came to be called the sorcerer.

Harut was called a magician

Harut earned the name of sorcerer,

And O paradise that heaven envied,

And a paradise from which gardens fled

And O paradise of which the heavens became jealous,

واشغله الغيب بالحاضر

واشغله الغيب بالحاضر

ويا لجة يستحم الجمال

ويا لجة يستحم الجمال

And the unseen engrossed it in the present.

And the unseen preoccupied it with the present

Distracting the unseen world with the present,

And O deep sea in which beauty bathes,

And a pond in which beauty bathes

And O deep expanse where Beauty bathes,

ويسبح في موحها الكافر

ويسبح في موحها الكافر

ويا ومضة الحب في خاطري

ويا ومضة الحب في خاطري

And the unbeliever swims in her waves.

And the infidel swims in its wave

And in whose waves the disbeliever swims,

And O flash of love in my thoughts,

And a gleam of love in my mind's eye

And O flash of love within my mind,

واشراقة الوحي للشاعر

واشراقة الوحي للشاعر

ويا ثورة حار فيها الزمان

ويا ثورة حار فيها الزمان

And the radiance of revelation for the poet.

And effulgence of revelation for the poet

And the radiance of inspiration for the poet,

And O revolution at which Time stood bewildered,

And a revolution in which time boiled

And O revolution that bewildered Time,

وفي شعبها الهادئ الثائر

وفي شعبها الهادئ الثائر

ويا وحدة صهرتها الخطوب

And at her people, calm yet rebellious.

And in its calm, raging people

And in its people—so calm yet so rebellious,

And O unity fused by ordeals,

And unity forged by devotion

And O unity forged by calamities,

 فقامت على دمها الفائر

ويا همة ساد فيها الحجى

ويا همة ساد فيها الحجى

So she rose upon her seething blood.

That stood on its pouring blood

Which rose upon its boiling blood,

And O resolve in which wisdom reigned,

And an ambition prevailing in it

And O determination where wisdom prevailed,

 فلم تك تقنع بالظاهر

فلم تك تقنع بالظاهر

ويا مثلا لصفاء الضمير

ويا مثلا لصفاء الضمير

So she would not be content with outward appearances.

That would not be content with the apparent

That was never content with mere appearances,

And O paragon of purity of conscience,

And an exemplar of purity of conscience

And O exemplar of a clear conscience,

يجل عن المثل السائر

يجل عن المثل السائر

سلام على مهرجان الخلود

سلام على مهرجان الخلود

That transcends the familiar proverb.

More glorious than the common exemplar

Far greater than any common proverb.
