Why do you weep like me, O dove, out of longing?
Are you, then, like me, one they have wronged in love?

ومعذبي عن ناظري حجبوه
I have no desire for life or its sweetness.
And they have hidden my tormentor from my sight.

What harm would it have done them had they left him?

If you are like me in ardent love and heartache,
O bird, cry out: “I raised him; they took him away!”
