The dove lamented, increasing my bewilderment.
The doves lamented, and their cry deepened my bewilderment.
Does it lament sorrowfully like me, though it is innocent?
Do they lament in sorrow like me, though innocent?

And I think I stirred them with my sorrowful sighs.
O dove above the arak tree, tell me:
O dove atop the arak tree, tell me:

By the one who made you weep, what made you weep?
