فقد زادنا الهجران بلوى على بلوى

For separation has added affliction upon affliction.
صددتمyou turned away وقلتمand you said قدalready سلوناwe had forgotten بزعمكمby your claim
صددتم وقلتم قد سلونا بزعمكم
ولسناand we are not علىable to bear هذاthis وحقand by the truth of الهوىlove نقوىstrong enough
ولسنا على هذا وحق الهوى نقوى
You turned away and said, as you claim, that we had forgotten you.
But, by the truth of love, we cannot bear this.
سهرناwe stayed awake وأوفيناand we remained faithful فنمتمso you slept وخنتمواand you betrayed
سهرنا وأوفينا فنمتم وخنتموا
وقلتمand you said لناto us لاmay not عاشlive منwhoever لمdoes not يمتdie شجوىof lovesick grief
وقلتم لنا لا عاش من لم يمت شجوى
We stayed awake and remained faithful; you slept and betrayed us.
And you told us: May whoever does not die of lovesick grief never live.
هنيئاًblessedly لكمfor you أحبابناour beloved ones النومsleep بعدناafter us
هنيئاً لكم أحبابنا النوم بعدنا
ولوthough انناwe indeed منafter بعدكمyou لاdo not نرىfind الغفواslumber
ولو اننا من بعدكم لا نرى الغفوا
Sleep well, our beloved ones, after leaving us,
