O you who have raised the foundation of eminence through virtue,

and repelled with overwhelming might whoever sought to touch it.

Yours is the credit: you have given the soul its solace.

So here is Hadhām, who today has led herself

to your welcoming abode, joyful at heart.

She came to us and alighted on a rise within our protected domain,

and received from us a gift of honor.

She has announced her withdrawal from us toward you.

She fulfilled our due through fellowship, then returned with yearning

to you, so that she may be near you, my friend.

For her, the wide expanse has grown narrow with longing for you.

Nor has she tired of recalling a bygone bond of hers.

And here she has returned, reviving what has passed.

So favor her with acceptance and approval,

for she now struts in excessive self-admiration.

And she is smitten with love for none but her patron,

wondrous in his favors, generous and lofty in them.

So, O her most exalted beloved, greet her with your bounty,

for nothing but your eminence is a worthy match for her mouth.

And despite her excesses, be forgiving and forgo reproach.
