What the ribs do not desire has banished sleep.

And every man will one day return to truth.

So, O Amr, many eyes have appeared.

So, would that I knew, Amr, what you will do!

And would that I knew about a matter you pledged to fulfill:

Will you bear it, Amr? You are not lame.

And men said that Amr desires it.

So I told them, "Amr is my follower today."

For if you have been slow to join me, there have rushed

Toward you the fingers, confirming suspicions.

For I—by the Lord of the camels dancing at evening,

Bowing beneath their riders while the dust rises—

Am confident in you today in sealing the caliphate's pact.

And before what they suspect of him lies deadly poison.

    ولا تَعْدُ فالأمر الذي حُمّ واقِعُ

    So hasten with it, or delay, without raising suspicion;

And do not overstep, for what is decreed will come to pass.
