ليسَis not مَنْone who قدalready غذاهُnourished him طِفْلاًas a child صغيراًlittle
ليسَ مَنْ قد غذاهُ طِفْلاً صغيراً
وسقاهُand gave him drink مِنfrom ثَدْيهِher breast بالخذولِa deserter
وسقاهُ مِن ثَدْيهِ بالخذولِ
She who nourished him as a little child
And gave him drink from her breast is no deserter.
هيshe أَوْلَىmore entitled بهِto him وَأْقْرَبُand closer رُحْماًin affection
هي أَوْلَى بهِ وَأْقْرَبُ رُحْماً
منthan أبيهhis father وفيand in قضاءthe ruling الرسولِof the Messenger
من أبيه وفي قضاء الرسولِ
She has the greater right to him and is closer in affection
Than his father; and the Messenger's ruling is
أنّهُthat it is the case ماnot جَنَتْshe committed a wrong عليهagainst him وَرَقّتْand she showed tenderness
أنّهُ ما جَنَتْ عليه وَرَقّتْ
هيshe أَوْلَىmore entitled بذاto this الغلامِboy الجميلِhandsome
هي أَوْلَى بذا الغلامِ الجميلِ
That, having done him no wrong and shown tenderness,
She has the greater right to this handsome boy.
