لمالُindeed, wealth المرْءِof a man يُصْلِحُهُhe manages it well فَيُغْنيand so meets
لمالُ المرْءِ يُصْلِحُهُ فَيُغْني
مَفَاقِرَهُhis needs أَعَفُّmore dignified مَنَthan القُنُوعِbegging
مَفَاقِرَهُ أَعَفُّ مَنَ القُنُوعِ
Indeed, the wealth a man manages well, which meets
Why should man amass that which betters him
His needs, is more dignified than begging.
When less suffices the self-content?
يَسُدُّhe wards off بهwith it نوائبَmisfortunes تَعْتَرِيهِthat befall him
يَسُدُّ به نوائبَ تَعْتَرِيهِ
مِنَfrom الأيّامِthe days كالنَّهْرِlike a river الشّروعِaccessible for drinking
مِنَ الأيّامِ كالنَّهْرِ الشّروعِ
With it he wards off misfortunes that befall him
With it he wards off the blows of fate -
From time, like a river accessible for drinking.
Like a river in full flow unspent.
