أكانَ الجبانُ يَرَى أنّهُ

أكانَ الجبانُ يَرَى أنّهُ

يُدافِعُ عَنْهُ الفِرارُ الأَجَلْ

Did the coward think that

Does the coward think that fleeing

flight would ward off death for him?

Will prolong for him his days?

فقد تُدرِكُ الحادثاتُ الجبانَ

فقد تُدرِكُ الحادثاتُ الجبانَ

ويسلمُ منها الشجاعُ البطلْ

ويسلمُ منها الشجاعُ البطلْ

For calamities may overtake the coward,

Misfortune still the coward seizes

while the brave hero escapes them unharmed.

While the brave escapes its ways
