اتخذ باللهو لهواً

Take one diversion in place of another,

and one garden in place of another.

إن يخنْ ظبيٌ فظبياً

إن يخنْ ظبيٌ فظبياً

أو تضقْ أرضٌ فأرضا

أو تضقْ أرضٌ فأرضا

If a gazelle betrays you, choose another gazelle;

or if a land confines you, choose another land.

كلها آياتُ حسنٍ

كلها آياتُ حسنٍ

بعضها ينسخُ بعضا

بعضها ينسخُ بعضا

All are signs of beauty;

some supersede others.
