كأنماas though فصلَwas cut منfrom إهابهْits hide
كأنما فصلَ من إهابهْ
Oh, how beautiful a robe that resembles the darkness of night!
O beauty of clothing alike to darkness
As though it were cut from its hide.
As though it were made in its obscurity

أزهى بهِ وكنتُ لا أزهى بهْ
The old man grieves over his youth.
The old man laments his youth
I take pride in it, though once I took no pride in it.
It blossomed with him yet I did not blossom with it

منذُ رأيت الناس من طلابهْ
As though I were the king among his companions,
As though I were a king among his companions
Ever since I saw people seeking it.
Since I saw people among his students

And all of them, ignorant and discerning alike,
Yet all of them from an ignorant and remorseful man
See a man's worth in his clothes.
They see the value of a man in his clothes
