يا غريبَ الدَّارِ إنَّ

يا غريبَ الدَّارِ إنَّ

الدُّرَّ أعلاهُ غريبُهْ

الدُّرَّ أعلاهُ غريبُهْ

O stranger far from home, indeed

O stranger in the land, though

the finest of pearls is the rare one.

Far from home the pearl is strange.

إن تكن غبتَ فإنَّ

إن تكن غبتَ فإنَّ

البدرُ قد طالَ مغيبهْ

البدرُ قد طالَ مغيبهْ

If you have been away, then indeed

If you've been gone for long,

the full moon's absence has grown long.

The moon has missed its range.

فاطوِ أيامكَ وارجعْ

فاطوِ أيامكَ وارجعْ

يبرئُ القلبَ طبيبهْ

يبرئُ القلبَ طبيبهْ

So fold up your days and return;

Pass your days, then turn back home,

its physician will heal the heart.

Where your heart is healed and whole.

إنما حظُّ الفتى من

إنما حظُّ الفتى من

هذهِ الدنيا حبيبهْ

هذهِ الدنيا حبيبهْ

A young man's only share of

All a man can claim of life

this world is his beloved.

Is the love that fills his soul.

قد شطرنا الدهرَ لي ما

قد شطرنا الدهرَ لي ما

مرَّ ولكنت لكَ طيبهْ

مرَّ ولكنت لكَ طيبهْ

We have divided time: mine is what

Though fate's dealt so much to me,

has passed; and [unclear wording] its sweetness is yours.

My days with you were fair and bright.

ونصيبُ المرءِ مما

ونصيبُ المرءِ مما

قدَّرَ اللهُ يُصيبهْ

قدَّرَ اللهُ يُصيبهْ

And a person's share of what

What God has willed for each man,

God has decreed will reach him.

He shall have, as is his right.
