O boy, watch for the dawn until

it shines forth; then call for the wine,

between a sun circling in a full moon's palm

    and sleeping eyes of flowers.

The east wind tosses them about on my right

and my left, and turns back from before me.

And when you have drunk his two cheeks, fill the cup,

and give it to me to drink like his cheek, O my boy.

And pass it round to slake my thirst; for, were I

not wasted away, I would pour it into my bones.

And leave worry to the reproachful women until

God judges between us in peace.
