In dusky-red lips lies what heals pain.

And the heart's cure is one mouth upon another.

Love laid down terms between us,

and my mouth signed and sealed them.

And I regard this love as a secret, so the lips

swear an oath to keep it hidden.

May my father be ransom for this beauty! And my father

did not beget me for anything else—no, and no!

O prince of beauty, what do you bid us do?

We are all servants in beauty's realm.

Were you, I wonder, fashioned from everyone's blood,

and is that why everyone's blood yearns for you?

And why this turning away? Is it not time for what

estrangement has scattered of me to be gathered together?

We praise God, for if the sun

acted as you do, we would live in darkness.
