إن ضقتَ بالعُسرِ فلا تَبْتَئِسْ

إن ضقتَ بالعُسرِ فلا تَبْتَئِسْ

فربَّما دلَّ على ضِدَّهِ

فربَّما دلَّ على ضِدَّهِ

If you are distressed by hardship, do not despair;

If hardship presses you, do not despair,

for it may point to its opposite.

For it may herald its opposite.

كالبرقِ يحكي في سناهُ اللَّظى

كالبرقِ يحكي في سناهُ اللَّظى

وقد يكونُ الغيثُ من بَعْدِهِ

وقد يكونُ الغيثُ من بَعْدِهِ

Like lightning, which in its radiance resembles flame,

Like lightning that reveals its flash in its clouds,

and rain may follow it.

The rain may follow after it.

فكلْ إلى اللهِ وبتْ راضِياً

فكلْ إلى اللهِ وبتْ راضِياً

فكلُّ ما مَسَّكَ من عِنْدِهِ

فكلُّ ما مَسَّكَ من عِنْدِهِ

So entrust matters to God and spend the night content,

So trust in God, be content and pleased

for all that touches you comes from Him.

For whatever touches you is from Him.
