رأَيتُ الهوى والخمر سيين غدرةً

رأَيتُ الهوى والخمر سيين غدرةً

وليسا على قلبي الحزين بسيين

I saw love and wine alike in treachery,

I saw desire and wine as two deceitful friends,

Yet they are not alike to my sorrowful heart.

Yet they aren't as deceitful to my sorrowful heart.

إذا أتوارى يطلبانِ فضيحتي

إذا أتوارى يطلبانِ فضيحتي

فتظهر في وجهي ويظهرُ في عيني

فتظهر في وجهي ويظهرُ في عيني

When I hide myself, both seek to expose me:

When they hide away, they seek to expose my shame,

So wine shows on my face, and love shows in my eye.

Which shows on my face and appears in my eyes.
