رأيتُ في الناسِ كلَّ شيءٍ

رأيتُ في الناسِ كلَّ شيءٍ

تحارُ في كنهِهِ العقولُ

تحارُ في كنهِهِ العقولُ

I have seen in people every kind of thing,

I've seen in people everything,

whose true nature bewilders minds.

Minds are perplexed by their essence.

ويصطفي المرءُ ألفَ خلٍّ

ويصطفي المرءُ ألفَ خلٍّ

ولا يفي منهمُ خليلُ

ولا يفي منهمُ خليلُ

And a person chooses a thousand friends,

One chooses a thousand friends,

yet no friend among them keeps faith.

Yet not one of them is a true friend.

فلا تحاولْ لهمْ رضاءً

فلا تحاولْ لهمْ رضاءً

إن رضاء الناسِ مستحيلُ

إن رضاء الناسِ مستحيلُ

So do not seek their approval:

So do not try to please them,

indeed, people's approval is impossible.

For pleasing people is impossible.
