1. أنا راضٍ بكلِّ ما يرضيكا

    فإلى كم هذا النمنّعُ فيكا

    I am content with everything that pleases you.

    How long, then, will this aloofness of yours last?

  2. وكفاني ما قد لقيتُ فمن لي

    إنَّ ما قد لقيتهُ يكفيكا

    What I have suffered is enough for me—who is there for me?

    Indeed, what I have suffered is enough for you.

  3. أتمنى لو تعرفُ الحبَّ يوماً

    غيرَ أني أخافُ ان يبكيكا

    I wish you might one day know love,

    But I fear that it would make you weep.

  4. يا مليكَ الجمالِ أنتَ على عر

    شِ فؤادي قد استويتَ مليكا

    O king of beauty, you, upon the throne

    Of my heart, have taken your seat as king.

  5. ولعمري ما قستَ صاحبَ ملكٍ

    بكَ إلا رأيتهُ صعلوكا

    By my life, you have never compared a sovereign

    With yourself without seeing him as a pauper.

  6. سهّدَ الحبُّ أعيني وجفاني

    من يواسي الحزينَ إلا الديكا

    Love has kept my eyes sleepless, and I have been shunned

    By those who comfort the sorrowful, save the rooster.

  7. فهوَ إن قلتُ أوْه من ألم الو

    جدِ رثى ليَ فصاحَ كاكا وكيكا

    For he, if I cry 'Oh!' from the pain of longing,

    Pities me and crows, 'Ka-ka!' and 'Ki-ka!'

  8. آه من هذهِ القلوبُ وهيها

    تَ ارى لي بينَ القلوبِ شريكا

    Ah, these hearts! How hopeless

    To find myself a companion among hearts!

  9. قد تركتُ الأنامَ إني متى احتج

    تُ إليهم رأيتني متروكا

    I have left humankind, for whenever I need

    Them, I find myself abandoned.
