Honor and glory lie in keen Indian blades,

Not in letters or the embellishment of speeches.

Keen blades decree, and their verdict takes effect [directly],

If doubt troubles the judgment of the skillful, discerning man.

These are the ladders to the loftiest ranks.

By a decisive heart that fears not once it resolves.

A swift march with unclouded resolve!

Bore him above the heads of the Eagle and the Pole Star:

ʿAbd al-ʿAziz, before whose might were humbled

The haughty tyrants, non-Arabs and Arabs alike.

The lord of noble offspring, son of illustrious lords.

And its pillars, their tent ropes stretched wide.

Yet the sun of all the kings of earth

Is ʿAbd al-ʿAziz, without falsehood or lies.

In a canopy of piled-up, mounting dust.

    Grown gaunt-flanked from strife,

    نَمشي إِلَيها وَلَو جَثيناً عَلى الرُكَبِ

    He said: “Close combat is our custom in war;

We advance to it, even on bended knees.”

And marched with his troops in a clamorous army,

Until he scaled walls and buildings

Which, but for destiny, no rope could have reached.

By which he guarded Islam's domain and ancestral honor.

Before morning, and brought forth the egg of the ages.

From the hand of one seeking God's reward, keeping watch.

The rulings of a believer in the Trinity and crosses.

Milking you like a she-camel restrained with a clamp.

Will be bared in victory there, or in death.

When kings seek soft bedding and recline

On couches amid bashful, affectionate maidens,

In keen blades, in supple brown spears, and in short-

Haired, swift steeds he finds work that keeps him from revelry.

Is what would spare you a reminder from one seeking God's reward.

As though they were pearls set off with gold.

And as long as thunder chants to the rain-pouring clouds.
