كَما جَرَت بِكَ لِلإِسعادِ أَقدارُ
Through you, lights have shone forth for Islam,
The lights of Islam shone brightly through you,
Through you, the lights of Islam have shone forth,
just as decrees of fate have unfolded through you to bring happiness.
Just as your destiny made happiness flow.
Just as destinies have flowed, through you, bringing felicity.
إِنَّindeed الَّذيHe who قَدَرَordained الأَشياthings بِحِكمَتِهِby His wisdom
إِنَّ الَّذي قَدَرَ الأَشيا بِحِكمَتِهِ
لِماfor what يُريدُHe desires مِنَof الخَيراتِgood things يَختارُHe chooses
لِما يُريدُ مِنَ الخَيراتِ يَختارُ
Indeed, He who ordained things in His wisdom
He who wisely ordains all things
Verily, He who ordained all things in His wisdom,
chooses for the good things He desires.
Chooses what good He desires.
Chooses whom He wills for the good He intends.
وَالعَبدُand the servant إِنif صَلُحَتis sound لِلَّهِfor God نِيَّتُهُhis intention

And if a servant's intention is sincere toward God,
If a servant's intention is sincere to God,
And the servant, if his intention toward God is sincere,
its effects must appear in the world.
Its effects in the universe will undoubtedly show.
Its signs must surely manifest within the world.

A wondrous secret God wished to reveal
It's a wondrous secret God wanted to reveal
A wondrous secret that God desired to reveal—
when you came—and how many secrets lie in the unseen!
When you came, though many mysteries remain obscure.
Upon your arrival; and how many secrets lie in the Unseen!
وَحِكمَةٌand a wisdom بِكَthrough you رَبُّthe Lord العَرشِthe Throne أَظهَرَهاrevealed it

And a wisdom the Lord of the Throne revealed through you,
Through you, the Lord of the Throne made His wisdom manifest
A wisdom which the Lord of the Throne made manifest through you,
like light concealed by stones before they are struck.
As He made the veil lift before the flash lit the flintstones.
Like the fire concealed within flint before the strike.

Through you, divided wills were united;
Discordant desires were united through you,
Through you, scattered passions were united,
before you, fire had blazed among them.
And fires blazed between them before you came.
Among whom the fire of discord had blazed before you.

So, after God had granted them success,
So after God guided them,
So they became, after God granted them success,
after misery and estrangement, they became renowned in the faith.
After hardship and estrangement they again became brethren in faith.
After misery and estrangement, a tale of glory in the Faith.
قُلsay لِلَّذينَto those who بِلَفظِby the term الرُشدِright guidance قَدhave نُبِزواbeen nicknamed

Say to those nicknamed with the term 'right guidance':
Say to those who are adorned with words of righteousness
Say to those who were nicknamed by the word "Rectitude," [Rashid]
A name, if it does not match its bearer's conduct, is a disgrace.
That a name, if deeds don't match, is disgraceful.
A name, if it does not match the deed, is but a disgrace.

أَن لَيسَ يوجَدُ لِلإِسلامِ أَنصارُ
Your foolish assumption about God has ruined you:
Your ignorance of God led you astray
Your assumption about God, born of foolishness, has ruined you:
that Islam has no defenders.
To think no supporters of Islam can be found.
Thinking that there exist no champions for Islam.
رَأَيتُمُyou deemed طاعَةَobedience to الأَتراكِthe Turks واجِبَةًobligatory
رَأَيتُمُ طاعَةَ الأَتراكِ واجِبَةً
لِأَنَّهُمbecause they عِندَكُمin your view لِلبَيتِof the House عُمّارmaintainers
لِأَنَّهُم عِندَكُم لِلبَيتِ عُمّار
You deemed obedience to the Turks obligatory,
You saw obedience to the Turks as obligatory
You deemed obedience to the Turks mandatory,
because, in your view, they maintain the House.
Because in your eyes they adorned the Holy House.
Because, in your eyes, they are the custodians of the House.
كَأَنَّكُمas though you لَمnot تَرَواsaw ماwhat فيin بَراءَةَBara'ah أَمor

زاغَت بَصائِرُكُم عَنها وَأَبصارُ
As though you had not seen what is in Bara'ah—or
As if you never saw what the innocence of Ammar disclosed,
As if you have not seen what is in the Chapter of Repentance, or
have your insights and eyes strayed from it?
Your insights about it are confused and your sights blurred.
Did your insights and eyes swerve away from it?
كَذلِكَlikewise الشِركُidolatry وَالكُفرُand unbelief العَظيمُgrievous لَهُمtheirs
كَذلِكَ الشِركُ وَالكُفرُ العَظيمُ لَهُم
فيهِin it وَفيand in الشَرِّevil إِقبالٌadvance وَإِدبارُand retreat
فيهِ وَفي الشَرِّ إِقبالٌ وَإِدبارُ
Likewise, theirs are idolatry and grievous unbelief;
Just as to them association and unbelief are dear,
Likewise, polytheism and great disbelief are theirs;
in that and in evil they advance and retreat.
And whether good or evil, they are prone to both.
In that, and in evil, they advance and retreat.
وَعِندَهُمand in their view أَنَّthat أَحكامَthe rulings الكِتابِthe Book بِهاin them
وَعِندَهُم أَنَّ أَحكامَ الكِتابِ بِها
عَلىupon الخَليفَةِthe caliph أِجحافٌunfairness وَإِضرارُand harm
عَلى الخَليفَةِ أِجحافٌ وَإِضرارُ
And they hold that the rulings of the Book impose
To them the Quran's decrees would oppress the Caliph,
They believe that the rulings of the Book contain
unfairness and harm upon the caliph.
So they opposed it with their own forged traditions.
Unfairness and harm against the Caliph.
فَخالَفوهاso they opposed them بِأَوضاعِwith ordinances مُلَفَّقَةٍfabricated

وَهُم بِأَوضاعِهِم لاشَكَّ كُفّارُ
So they opposed them with fabricated ordinances,
Doubtless with their innovations they are infidels,
So they opposed it with fabricated laws,
and by their ordinances they are, without doubt, unbelievers.
Is it ignorance of their state, or following whims and deceits intoxicating?
And by these fabrications, they are undoubtedly disbelievers.
فَلَيتَso if only شِعريmy knowing أَذاis this جَهلٌignorance بِحالِهِمُof their condition

أَمِ اِتِّباعُ الهَوى وَالغَيِّ خَمّارُ
So, if only I knew: is this ignorance of their condition,
When the Turkish dogs stirred trouble amongst you,
Would that I knew: is this ignorance of their state,
or is following desire and error an intoxicant?
You danced though no defenders of the faith stood guard.
Or is the pursuit of desire and error an intoxicant?
لَمّاwhen عَوَتhowled أَكلُبُthe dogs الأَتراكِthe Turks بَينَكُمُamong you

When the Turks' dogs howled among you,
Why follow not an Imam whose sole purpose
When the dogs of the Turks howled among you,
you danced, when the faith had no defenders.
Is to aid Muslims and make Islam manifest?
You danced, thinking the Faith had no defenders.

Why did you not follow an imam whose chief aim
Abdul Aziz, for whose rule the regions yearn,
Why did you not follow an Imam whose sole aim
was to exalt the Muslims and Islam?
The branch from the Prophet and the brilliant stars of early times.
Is the elevation of the Muslims and Islam?

Abd al-Aziz, whom they longed to see,
We used to pass the dead and envy them
Abdulaziz, for whose sight
and whose reign they longed for—the cities across the broad earth.
When affairs were ruled by the wicked before him.
The cities across the vast earth have longed.

A scion of the imams after the Messenger, who were
Now the times are good under his reign,
A scion of the Imams following the Messenger, who are
moons for Wa'il in ages long past.
As the strings of guidance and faith are strummed.
To the tribe of Wa'il, in ancient times, like moons.

We used to pass by the dead, envying them,
I say, and the truest words are most sincere,
We used to pass by the dead and envy them,
before him, when wicked men held power.
Whether warning and reminders can benefit you now.
Before him, when wicked men held the reins of power.

So now the days are sweet through him, for there were avenged
Think not these are embellished tales
But now, the days have sweetened through him, as he has taken
through him the wrongs of the people of guidance and faith.
Told by revelers amidst throngs making merry.
Vengeance on behalf of the people of guidance and Faith.

Indeed, I say—and the best speech is the truest—
Soon the bells of remorse will toll,
I speak—and the best speech is the truest—
if admonition and warning can benefit you:
When a deceitful betrayer hands you over for a time.
If warning and admonition are of any use to you:

Do not think these are embellished tales
When the defenders of faith come led by a lion,
Do not deem these merely embellished tales
with which evening companions amuse themselves in the clan's assembly.
Fierce of claw and fang, no prey escapes his grip.
With which storytellers amuse the gathering at night.

Soon you will surely gnash your teeth in remorse,
Do not transgress the domains of kings,
You will soon grind the teeth of regret,
on the morning a deceiver delivers you to death.
Else the houses will be ruined and homes wrecked.
On the morn when a deceiver surrenders you to doom.

The robe of renunciation should be their garb,
When the protectors of the Faith come upon you, led by
a mighty lion, with fang and claws,
When orators and poets wag tongues in circles of wine.
A ferocious lion, bearing fangs and claws;

thick of paw, whose prey goes no further than
They heal the wounds of the downtrodden, and none can protect
Rough-pawed; his prey is nothing less than
the hunting of kings—or else the dwelling is laid waste.
The tyrannical from their might, nor deter their arm.
The catch of kings, or else the house is laid to waste.

One of those who made fine chain mail their clothing,
How often he counseled you out of compassion, hoping
Of those who have taken chainmail as their raiment,
when supple brown spears clash and quiver.
That you would thus find guidance, if you had insight.
When the pliable brown spears clash and quiver.

Menders of the fractures of those seeking bounty; and there is no
The most ignorant are those who know not their own worth,
Those who mend the fractures of the supplicants, while
protector against them in wrongdoing, nor any giver of refuge.
Or are fooled when the battlefield is empty of heroes.
None can protect or offer asylum against them when they attack.

How often he has repeated and offered you counsel out of compassion,
He who builds his abode in the path of the floods
How often he repeated his advice to you out of pity,
if only there were among you one urging you to right guidance!
Will surely one day face destruction from the waters.
If only there were among you one to command rectitude.

And the most ignorant of people is one who does not know his worth,
But you were misled by those who bring you no fortune-
The most ignorant of men is he who knows not his own worth,
or is deceived by galloping when the field is empty.
Wicked slaves, nomads, and clamoring riffraff.
Or is deceived by his own galloping when the battlefield is empty.

And whoever builds his dwelling amid the debris of a torrent
Fortresses will deliver you to ruin,
He who builds his dwelling in the torrent's path
must one day meet devastation from it.
As it was for him who built the lofty encampment.
Will surely face destruction from it one day.

Yet it was those who cannot help you who deceived you:
But your besiegement in the depths of your homes
But you were deluded by those who bring you no fortune—
evil slaves, Bedouins, and coppersmiths.
He also saw as disgrace and belittlement.
Wretched thralls, bedouins, and empty whistlers.
إِنَّindeed الحُصونَthe fortresses إِلىto البَلوىcalamity سَتُسلِمُكُمwill surrender you

Indeed, the fortresses will surrender you to calamity,
So the protector of truths set fires openly around you,
Your fortresses will surrender you to calamity,
as happened with what Sinimmar raised high.
Sparks of passion to kindle the blaze.
As happened to him for whom Sinimmar built on high.

But he saw that confining you deep inside your dwelling
The son of the Imam, who his father
But he saw that besieging you in the depth of your home
also meant contempt for you and belittlement.
Appointed as a shooting star containing a storm.
Was a way to show you contempt and belittlement.

So he openly kindled fire all around you,
No wonder the cub follows in the footsteps
So he openly kindled fire upon your flanks,
the guardian of sacred trusts, a firebrand of war.
Of the lion, if the running ground extends far enough!
The Defender of Truths, who sets the battlefield ablaze.

The Imam's son, whom his father had kept in readiness
You've been left as an incomplete image with no hands to grip
The son of the Imam, who had prepared him
for you—a meteor with a whirlwind within.
Or feet to walk if they march.
For you—his father made him a meteor containing a storm.

And no wonder that the lion-cub's paths should go beyond
Repent to Islam, else await a day that will be
And the cub—it is no wonder his paths tread
the lion's paths, if the racecourse stretches on.
Renowned and spoken of in reports!
The paths of the lion, when the course is long.

You have been left a maimed form that has no
These are the words of one giving sincere advice.
You were left as a mutilated form, possessing neither
hand to strike, nor foot when they march.
And advice, to the wise, brings recollection.
A hand to strike, nor a leg to walk.

If you do not turn back to Islam, then await
Then blessings upon the Guide, his followers,
If you do not return in repentance to Islam, then await
a day upon you that will be remembered and recounted.
And his companions, as long as birds fly through the air!
A day against you that shall be legendary in tales.

This is the speech of a man offering his counsel,
and the counsel within it is a reminder for those of understanding.
And in counsel, for the wise, lies a reminder.

And his companions, as long as birds sing in the thicket.
