اِضرَع إِلى اللَهِ لا تَضرَع إِلى الناسِ

اِضرَع إِلى اللَهِ لا تَضرَع إِلى الناسِ

وَاِقنَع بِيَأسٍ فَإِنَّ العِزَّ في الياسِ

وَاِقنَع بِيَأسٍ فَإِنَّ العِزَّ في الياسِ

Humbly beseech God; do not beseech people.

Plead to God, do not plead to people,

And be content to expect nothing, for dignity lies in expecting nothing.

And be content with despair, for glory is in despair,

وَاِستَغنِ عَن كُلِّ ذي قُربى وَذي رَحِمٍ

وَاِستَغنِ عَن كُلِّ ذي قُربى وَذي رَحِمٍ

إِنَّ الغَنِيَّ مَنِ اِستَغنى عَنِ الناسِ

إِنَّ الغَنِيَّ مَنِ اِستَغنى عَنِ الناسِ

And have no need of any kinsman or blood relative.

And do without all kin and family,

Truly rich is the one who has no need of people.

Indeed, the rich is the one who can do without people,

فَالرِزقُ عَن قَدَرٍ يَجري إِلى أَجَلٍ

فَالرِزقُ عَن قَدَرٍ يَجري إِلى أَجَلٍ

في كَفِّ لا غافِلَ عَنّي وَلا ناسي

في كَفِّ لا غافِلَ عَنّي وَلا ناسي

For sustenance flows according to decree until an appointed term,

For sustenance comes by fate until an appointed time,

In the hand of One neither heedless of me nor forgetful.

In the hand of One who is neither unaware of me nor forgetful,

فَكَيفَ أَبتاعُ فَقراً حاضِراً بِغِنىً

فَكَيفَ أَبتاعُ فَقراً حاضِراً بِغِنىً

وَكَيفَ أَطلُبُ حاجاتي مِنَ الناسِ

وَكَيفَ أَطلُبُ حاجاتي مِنَ الناسِ

So how can I buy present poverty with wealth?

So how can I buy present poverty with riches?

And how can I seek what I need from people?

And how can I seek my needs from people?
