Peace be upon you from across the sea, wherever
Peace be upon you from beyond the sea, wherever
you may settle. Do not grieve—such is the way of things, even as
you have settled. Do not grieve—such is the plight—as
بكيناwe wept ولكنand yet لاnot عليكمfor you بكاؤناour weeping

فأيكم المعدود بالحق مجرما
we have wept; yet let our weeping not trouble you.
we have wept; yet our weeping is not for you.
For which of you is truly reckoned a criminal?
For which of you can truly be counted a criminal?

But this is the way of the free; this is their fate.
Yet such are the free: this is their fate.
Then you may say: exile has become a ladder.
So say then: exile has become a ladder.

We too shall meet what, for truth’s sake, the likes of you have met,
We encounter what your like encountered for the truth,
and rise as the stars rise through the heavens.
and rise as the stars rise in the sky.

Where, then, is Rida, who once dwelt in a foreign land,
at times in hunger and at times in thirst?
at times in hunger, and at times in thirst?

Today he sits upon the seat of command, a ruler,
Today he is a ruler upon the throne of sovereignty,
surrounded by those once humbled within the homeland.
and around him are those who were once lowly within the realm.

Take heart, you who have journeyed far, for surely
Be patient, O exiles, for
each shall return, honored, to the province.
everyone will return to the province with honor.

The Judge will take vengeance upon every traitor
And the Judge will take vengeance on every traitor
who seeks to dissolve a union firmly ordained.
who seeks to dissolve a unity that has become binding.

Before he dies, give him the tidings of disgrace—a stigma
So give him tidings, before death, of disgrace—a stain
that makes him taste gall from the cup of ignominy.
that makes him taste bitter colocynth from the cup of dishonor.

History will preserve a tarnished memory of him,
and marshal against him a vast army of curses.

It will consign him to the greatest losers, as punishment,
And it will place him among the greatest losers as exemplary punishment,
and scatter him, cast down like shattered straw.
and scatter him, cast aside, as crushed dry stubble.

The mark of every hypocrite lies upon his face,
So his mark is upon the face of every hypocrite,
so that every Muslim among us may take warning.
to warn everyone among us who is a Muslim.

Such is the fate of traitors—and of every one like him;
Such is the fate of traitors; the like of it
so has God spoken of them, and crushed them utterly.
God likewise declared of them: “So He crushed them utterly.”
