and the revolutionaries’ path ran with blood?

And the path of the rebels flowed with blood?

And for whom were the skulls scattered right here

For whom were the skulls scattered here and there

and here, and the road surged with them and sagged?

And the road was filled with their wailing?

ولمن تقحَّمتِ المنون قوافل

ولمن تقحَّمتِ المنون قوافل

المستشهدين وشقت الأرزاء

المستشهدين وشقت الأرزاء

And for whom did the caravans brave death—

For whom did the caravans of martyrs

caravans of martyrs—and cut through calamities,

Storm through death and tear through misery?

واستعذبت خوضَ الجحيم ورصَّعت

واستعذبت خوضَ الجحيم ورصَّعت

بحراحها وجه الدروب فداء

بحراحها وجه الدروب فداء

and find sweetness in wading through hell, and stud

Who found sweetness in entering hell

the face of the roads with their wounds, in sacrifice?

And paved the roads with their open wounds as sacrifice?
