    A country girl, her body swaying,

    with lush vitality born of merriment and ease.

  2. ترعرعت بين ظلال الربى

     ونسمة الوادي وعزف الرياح

    She grew up among the shadows of the hills,

    the valley's breeze and the music of the winds.

  3. تحية مني إلى "غادة"

     هيفاء لفاء كعاب رداح

    A greeting from me to “Ghada,”

    slender-waisted, full-thighed, budding-breasted, ample-hipped.

  4. في الشمس والظل نمت واستوت

     فهي مثال للجمال الصراح

    In sun and shade she grew and matured,

    so she is a model of pure beauty.

  5. تختال من دل ومن صبوة

     في حسنها النشوان من غير راحل

    She struts with coy charm and youthful longing,

    in her ecstatic beauty, with no one departing.

  6. لا ما رأت عيني على ما رأت

     من الحسان الرائعات الصباح

    No—my eye has never seen, despite all it has seen

    of wondrous, radiant beauties,

  7. مثلًا لها في حسنها غادة

     باح لها الحسن بما لا يباح

    an equal to her in beauty. A maiden

    to whom beauty has disclosed what may not be disclosed.

  8. عينان ما عين المها والظبا

     وقامة ما البان؟ ماذا الرماح؟

    Two eyes—what are the eyes of oryx and gazelles beside them?

    And a figure—what are bān trees? What are spears?

  9.  وغرة من غير "تسريحة"

     تربع السحر بها واستراح

    And a forelock without any “styling,”

    where enchantment sat enthroned and rested.
