and with it, O Sa'd, add yearning to my yearning.

oh, would that I knew who has taken my place with them!

a vision of you, for a promise from you makes me glad.

where you are mentioned, tears stream down my cheek.

were upon my liver—for heat is quenched by cold.

And would that riders returning from the protected pastures

would spread my tidings of the journey.

When riders follow flickering lightning in search of pasture,

and urge their mounts to trot and stride swiftly,

I have hobbled my camel at your door, seeking

al-Walid's presence, for he makes further seeking needless.

and mine is lush pasture fed by the sweetest waters.

Muhammad is most worthy of praise and commendation.

and no peer is found for a stick of nadd incense.

amid meadows and unceasing rain without thunder,

whose honor is my honor, and whose glory is my glory.

And his radiant days are my days, through which

I rise in stature—and the free man lifts up the slave.

    Your father is Abu Sa'd, son of the mainstay of them all;

and in Sa'd the tribes find a shade of good fortune.

    وما الشبلُ إلاّ مشبهُ الأسد الِوْرد

    And you are his son, striving to uphold his noble deeds;

and the lion cub cannot but resemble the tawny lion.
