Oh, the shame, Abu Atiq! What is it

that the reports have told about my story?

Have you two heard? I am innocent—and how many have knelt,

others than I, while you are the benefactor, the oft-forgiving one!

Is my standing scorned in your eyes, when I am the one

whose heart burns with zeal for you and is fiercely protective?

How grievous for Hud son of Abir that I

have been cut off from her, while through me vengeance is stirred!

And your people's daughters are out in the open, so your people have become

separate groups, and your neighbor is a neighbor to strangers.

Reflect and weigh the matter—may no arm of yours grow weak—

and remember; perhaps remembrance will help.

Whoever gains honor, his people gain honor through his honor,

and evening companions converse about his glory.
