O occupant of the tomb, abiding in Yathrib,

Give aid, for how often you have answered a tormented one's cry!

O possessor of august standing, and possessor of

The beautiful face, and O you of pure station,

O son of the ʿĀtikas of Quraysh, who was never

Unknown among them, nor an object of wonder,

O Messenger of God, will you grant a compassionate glance?

I would ransom you with my tender mother and my father.

Rescue a captive who seeks none but you,

For often have you relieved a distressed person's anguish.

And intercede, for your face is never turned away, and always

Through your face, every sinner's lapse is pardoned.

Do not sleep while I have stayed awake, for often

The generous man has kept vigil in offering the noblest protection.

Do not neglect my love and my praises,

And my appeals for intercession, my protestations of innocence, and my being far from home.

Year after year I weary my companions

With praise of you, in the east and in the west.

And whenever the travelers seek you out for a visit,

I send my praise of you, perfume amid perfume.

The world has closed in on me, and your face is my direction of prayer.

And to you I turn for succor; your shade is my refuge.

What they recounted was not my doing; it was only

The envy of souls—may they never attain their aim!

Rise, O Messenger of God, as one full of mercy,

Gentle, compassionate, and a staunch defender.

    أيضيق عن ذا الخائِف المترقب

    Your standing has indeed encompassed all who have trodden the earth;

Can it be too narrow for this fearful, apprehensive one?

Intercede and say what you will; indeed, you abide

At the station nearest to the Lord of Majesty.

Rise and rouse your two companions, for everyone

Whose soul has had you as its means of appeal has known no fear.

So may He who turns hearts loosen their hold

On me, for whoever hopes in Him is not disappointed.

O people of Yathrib, I have come under your protection,

All of you; abandoning one under protection is not justified.

O people of Yathrib, I have become your guest.

Say, 'You have alighted among family, and welcome!'

Hasten to rescue the drowning man, for only

The generous are called upon when the way grows narrow.

O Lord of Ahmad, may You not let Ahmad's

Due be lost; and bless the beloved, the noble one.

O Lord, bless him, full of compassion,

Tender-hearted, calling to You, and brought near.
