أنif كنتَyou were تجرحنيyou wound me باللّحظِwith glances والمقلِand eyes
فسوفَthen will أجرحُI wound فيin خديكyour two cheeks بالُقبَلwith kisses
If you wound me with glances and eyes,
If you hurt me with a glance and wink
then I will wound your cheeks with kisses.
Then I will hurt your cheek with a kiss
أوor كانwas خمرُهمtheir wine ماءٌwater بهin it عَسَلٌhoney

Or if their wine is water with honey in it,
Or if their wine was water mixed with honey
then the wine of your saliva surpasses water and honey.
Then the wine of your saliva is above water and honey

They said, 'You have been corrupted by the languid-eyed one.' I told them
They said you are corrupted by my flirting glance, I said to them
that corruption by the languid-eyed one is better for me.
Corruption by my flirting glance makes me better

How handsome he is, upright like a bough of the ban tree,
Oh his beauty like an evenly balanced rod
swaying above a sand dune formed by his rump.
That sways over soft cheeks of a gazelle

Arching his brows, turning his neck
Arched are his eyebrows, alluring his neck
away from me—alas for my suffering from that act!
My eyes are dazzled by such a vision

I have not forgotten the night when I tugged at his loincloth,
I have not forgotten the night I pulled his apron
and his cheeks had turned rosy with shyness.
And his cheeks turned red from shyness

وقالand he said مِنfrom قَبِلthe side of الواشينthe talebearers لاnot قبليmy side
I reproached him, so he wept; I treated him tenderly, so he complained.
I blamed him so he cried, I consoled him so he complained
And he said, 'It comes from the talebearers, not from me.'
And he said "it's not my fault, blame the slanderers"
