وفي الدواوين بيت ساد أوله

وفي الدواوين بيت ساد أوله

وطار مَا بين أغوارٍ وانجاد

وطار مَا بين أغوارٍ وانجاد

And in the poetry collections is a verse whose opening held sway,

In collections a verse has prevailed, its beginning:

And it flew between lowlands and highlands:

It flew between chasms and summits.

الخير أبقى وإن طال الزمان به

الخير أبقى وإن طال الزمان به

والشرُّ أخبث مَا أوْعَيت من زاد

والشرُّ أخبث مَا أوْعَيت من زاد

Goodness is more enduring, however much time passes over it;

Goodness endures, however long time carries it.

And evil is the foulest provision you have stored away.

Evil is the most rotten baggage you can pack.
