You were to me the contrary of what your name implies,

So the good omen I drew from your name proved false.

So be for me what your name decrees, inclined

So my hope in the promise of your name proved false.

After clarity, you grew turbid toward me, then cut me off,

You muddied after clear waters for me, so you thwarted me

You turned turbid after clarity and severed ties with me,

Just as Wasil once severed ties with al-Basri.

As (Al-Basri) thwarted (Wāṣil) before

Just as Wasil broke away from Al-Basri long ago.
