Your face today is radiant;

No gloom has hovered about it.

Unmarred by any sorrows

No gloom hovers around it.

فأزح كل حالك

فأزح كل حالك

بين أحيائنا انتشر

بين أحيائنا انتشر

So dispel all darkness

So remove any discontent

So dispel every pitch-black darkness

That has spread among our neighborhoods.

And mingle amongst us

That has spread amidst our neighborhoods,

وأزل كل لمعة

وأزل كل لمعة

من قذى تخدش البصر

من قذى تخدش البصر

And remove every fleck

And remove any glitter

And wipe away every speck

Of grit that scratches the eye.

That hurts the eyes

Of impurity that scratches the vision.

إن للناس أنفسا

إن للناس أنفسا

ضاريات على الضرر

ضاريات على الضرر

Indeed, people have souls

People have selves

Verily, people possess souls

Savage, intent on harm,

That harm and do evil

Predatory in inflicting harm,

وعيونا رقيبة

وعيونا رقيبة

شرة تقذف الشرر

شرة تقذف الشرر

And eyes that keep watch,

And spying eyes

And watchful eyes,

Malicious, hurling sparks.

That shoot out sparks

Wicked, casting out sparks of malice.

كلما سار سائر

كلما سار سائر

قلبت بعده الأثر

قلبت بعده الأثر

Whenever a traveler passes,

Whenever someone moves

Whenever a traveler sets forth,

They scrutinize the trail behind him.

They turn over his tracks

They upturn the tracks behind him.

فانج من كيدها وكن

فانج من كيدها وكن

من أذاها على حذر

من أذاها على حذر

So escape their scheming, and be

So beware of their plots

So escape their plotting and be

On guard against their harm.

And be cautious of their harm

On guard against their injury.

قد بلا الله من بلا

قد بلا الله من بلا

فيك بالسعي واختبر

فيك بالسعي واختبر

God has tested those who strove

God has tested whom He tested

God has surely tested those He tested

In your cause, and put them to the proof.

So keep trying and He will judge

Regarding you through effort, and put them to proof.

فتخلى الذي أبى

فتخلى الذي أبى

وتحلى الذي صبر

وتحلى الذي صبر

Then he who refused withdrew,

So leave those who refused

So he who refused withdrew,

And he who endured was adorned.

And stick with those who persevered

And he who endured was adorned with virtue.

أخسر الناس صفقة

نفر منك قد نفر

نفر منك قد نفر

The greatest losers in the bargain

The one who shunned you

The greatest loser among people in the bargain

Are a band who have turned away from you.

Lost the best deal

Is a group that has fled from you.

قد نوينا له الهدى

قد نوينا له الهدى

ما نوينا له الغرر

ما نوينا له الغرر

We intended guidance for them;

We intended guidance for him

We intended guidance for them;

We intended no peril for them.

Not false promises

We did not intend for them deception.

قسما بالذي كفى

قسما بالذي كفى

حزبه غارة الغير

حزبه غارة الغير

I swear by Him who spared

I swear by He who sufficed

An oath by the One who sufficed

His followers the onslaught of misfortune:

His party against harm from others

His party against the raid of calamities.

علم الله لم نرد

علم الله لم نرد

بشرا غافلا بشر

بشرا غافلا بشر

God knows we never intended

God knows we never wanted

God knows we did not desire

Evil for any unsuspecting person.

To ignore an oblivious person

To harm a heedless human with evil.

نحن في الخير رفقة

نحن في الخير رفقة

ما لنا غيره وطر

ما لنا غيره وطر

We are companions in goodness;

We are in the company of good

We are companions in goodness;

We have no desire but it.

We have no other refuge or shelter

We have no purpose other than it.

احتملنا له الأذى

احتملنا له الأذى

واقتحمنا له الخطر

واقتحمنا له الخطر

For its sake we have borne harm,

We endured harm for it

We bore injury for its sake,

And for its sake braved danger.

And braved dangers for it

And for it, we stormed through danger.

وبلونا بكسبه

وبلونا بكسبه

كل ما ساءنا وسر

كل ما ساءنا وسر

And in gaining it we have experienced

And we gained through it

And in earning it, we experienced

All that grieved us and gladdened us.

Whatever saddened or gladdened us

Everything that saddened and pleased us.

And in goodness is a crossing,

And goodness has rough roads

For the path of goodness is a crossing,

Thorny, frightening whoever crosses.

That a traveling shepherd crossed

Thorny, daunting to those who cross.

ومن الشرمعثر

لم يقم من به عثر

لم يقم من به عثر

And in evil is a stumbling place;

While evil has slippery ground

And the path of evil is a stumbling block;

None who stumbled there has risen.

Where no stumbler can stand

He who trips on it does not rise.

ومن الناس أنجم

ومن الناس أنجم

في الملمات أو حفر

في الملمات أو حفر

And among people are stars

And people are like stars

And among people are stars

In calamities—or pits.

In times of adversity or joy

In times of crisis, or else pits.

ولأعمالهم بها

ولأعمالهم بها

مثل أشكالهم صور

مثل أشكالهم صور

And in these, their deeds have

And their deeds are like their forms

And for their deeds therein

Images resembling their own forms.

In images and pictures

Are forms resembling their own shapes.

Indeed, goodness has a form,

Goodness has an image

Indeed, goodness has a form,

Radiant, enchanting the gaze.

That captivates the eyes

Radiant, captivating the sight.

أيها الدهر إنما

أنت لوح من الذكر

أنت لوح من الذكر

O Time, truly,

O time, you are but

O Time, you are but

You are but a tablet of memories.

A tablet where good is recorded

A tablet of remembrance.

راسم الخير فيك لم

يبق في الحسن أو يذر

يبق في الحسن أو يذر

He who inscribes goodness upon you has not

He who drew good in you

The one sketching goodness within you has not

Left anything to be desired in beauty.

Left nothing good un traced

Left out nor omitted anything of beauty.

أيها الغر شرفوا

نزل ناديكم الأغر

نزل ناديكم الأغر

O illustrious ones, honor

O noble ones, be honored

O noble ones, honor

The hospitality of your splendid club.

A guest came your club

The lodging of your illustrious club.

رحبت ساحه بكم

رحبت ساحه بكم

والمقاصير والحجر

والمقاصير والحجر

Its courtyards have opened wide to you,

Its arena, streets and stones welcomed you

Its courtyard has welcomed you,

As have its chambers and rooms.

And a good reception was set up for you

As have the chambers and the halls.

وأقيمت لكم به سفـ

وأقيمت لكم به سفـ

ـرة حسنها سفر

ـرة حسنها سفر

And there was laid for you a ban—

Food is served in our meadow

And a banquet has been set for you therein,

—quet whose beauty shone forth.

Amidst the blossoming flowers

Whose beauty shines forth clearly.

سمط الأكل روضة

سمط الأكل روضة

بيننا رفة الزهر

بيننا رفة الزهر

The spread of food is a garden

While arguments are like bows around us

The arrangement of food is a garden,

Among us, fresh with blossoms.

And prevention is like war

Fluttering among us like flowers.

والخطابات أقوس

والخطابات أقوس

حولنا والنهى أكر

حولنا والنهى أكر

And the speeches are bows

Come let's call to its bright side

The speeches are bows

Around us, and minds are balls.

And the goodness will flourish

Around us, and intellects are spheres.

أيي ناد به ازدهى

أيي ناد به ازدهى

جانب الخير وازدهر

جانب الخير وازدهر

What a club, in which has shone

Do not stint in supporting it

What a club wherein flourished

The cause of goodness, and flourished!

In its greatest tasks

The side of goodness, and bloomed.

لا تضنوا بنصره

لا تضنوا بنصره

في مهماته الكبر

في مهماته الكبر

Do not withhold your support for it

Do not neglect to ignite it

Do not be stingy in supporting it

In its great undertakings.

It settles for consent

In its momentous tasks.

لا تبثوابه قلى

لا تبثوابه قلى

إنه للرضى مقر

إنه للرضى مقر

Do not spread hatred within it;

Do not fear any harm with it

Do not spread hatred within it;

It is an abode of contentment.

It is your protection and armour

It is an abode for contentment.

لا تخافوا به أذى

لا تخافوا به أذى

فهو من حولكم وزر

فهو من حولكم وزر

Do not fear harm within it,

Woe to a people who did not beware

Do not fear harm therein,

For it is a refuge all around you.

God's wrath in Hellfire

For it is a shelter around you.

ويح قوم لم يحذروا

نقمة الله في سقر

نقمة الله في سقر

Woe to a people who never feared

Heedless of what God forbade or ordered

Woe to a people who did not beware

God's vengeance in Saqar!

The insights challenged them with verses and lessons

God's vengeance in the Hellfire.

لا يبالون في الهوى

لا يبالون في الهوى

ما نهي الله أو أمر

ما نهي الله أو أمر

In their passions they heed not

We will guide with its light

They care not, in their caprice,

What God forbade or commanded.

All who deviated or disbelieved

ئر) بالآي والعبر

They have been challenged by Al-Basa—

And pride ourselves on our path under it

The 'Insights' (Al-Basa'ir) have challenged them

—'ir, with verses and lessons.

Above the stars of sorcerers

With verses and lessons.

سوف نهدي بنورها

سوف نهدي بنورها

كل من زاغ أو كفر

كل من زاغ أو كفر

By its light we shall guide

We hastened our steps for it

We shall guide by its light

All who have strayed or disbelieved.

And sharpened our minds for it

Everyone who swerved or disbelieved.

ونباهي بسيرنا

ونباهي بسيرنا

تحتها أنجم السحر

تحتها أنجم السحر

And with our march we shall rival—

O Muslims do not break

And we shall boast of our march

Beneath it—the stars before dawn.

A covenant you have broken

Beneath it, to the stars of the dawn.

قد حثثنا لها الخطى

قد حثثنا لها الخطى

وشحذنا لها الفكر

وشحذنا لها الفكر

For it we have quickened our steps

Make peace with whoever transgressed

We have quickened our steps for it,

And for it sharpened our thought.

Or was aggressive in disputes

And sharpened our minds for it.

أيها المسلمون لا

أيها المسلمون لا

تخفروا عهد من خفر

تخفروا عهد من خفر

O Muslims, do not

It suffices us in our struggle

O Muslims, do not

Break the pledge of one who gave protection.

That destiny is in our army

Betray the covenant of one who seeks protection.

سالموا كل من طغى

سالموا كل من طغى

في الخصومات أو فجر

في الخصومات أو فجر

Make peace with all who have overstepped

You were the best nation

Offer peace to whoever tyrannized

In disputes, or acted wickedly.

God brought out for mankind

In disputes or acted wickedly.

حسبنا في جهادنا

حسبنا في جهادنا

أن من جندنا القدر

أن من جندنا القدر

It suffices us in our struggle

Neither fear nor grieve

It suffices us in our struggle

That destiny is among our troops.

For your future is victory

That Destiny is among our soldiers.

كنتم خيرأمة

كنتم خيرأمة

أخرج الله للبشر

أخرج الله للبشر

You have been the finest community

You were the best nation

God has brought forth for humankind.

God brought forth for mankind.

لا تخافوا لا تحزنوا

لا تخافوا لا تحزنوا

إن عقباكم الظفر

إن عقباكم الظفر

Do not fear; do not grieve.

Do not fear, do not grieve,

Your final outcome is surely victory.

For your ultimate outcome is victory.
