1. دعاك الأمل

    لخير العمل

    Hope has called you

    to the best of deeds.

  2. فخل الونى

    وقم عن عجل

    So leave off slackness,

    and rise in haste.

  3. أضعنا المنى

    بفرط المهل

    We squandered our dreams

    through excessive delay.

  4. فهل نفخة

    تزيل الفشل؟

    Is there, then, a breath

    that can banish failure?

  5. وهل صرخة

    تهز القلل؟

    And is there a cry

    that can shake the summits?

  6. رجال الحمى

    حماكم سأل

    Men of the homeland,

    your homeland has made its plea.

  7. فلبوا الحمى

    كجند نسل

    So answer the homeland,

    like an army rushing forth,

  8. وسيل همى

    وغيث هطل!

    and a torrent streaming,

    and rain pouring down!

  9. أراه احتمى

    بكم واحتفل

    I see it has sought shelter

    in you, and held you in honor.

  10. فحلوا الحبى

    وشدوا العضل

    So undo your knee-bindings,

    and brace your muscles.

  11. وضموا القرى

    ولموا الكتل

    And unite the villages,

    and gather the groups.

  12. علام الجفا؟

    وفيم الدغل؟

    Why this estrangement?

    And why this deceit?

  13. إلام الونى؟

    ومم الوجل؟

    How long this slackness?

    And fear of what?

  14. وفينا دم

    صفا واستقل

    And within us is blood

    that is pure and free;

  15. دم لم يضع

    سدى أو يطل

    blood that was not lost

    in vain or left unavenged.

  16. زكا في الألى

    زكوا في الأول

    It was pure in those

    who were pure among the forebears,

  17. ومنهم جرى

    لنا وانتقل

    and from them it flowed

    to us and was passed on.

  18. وفينا يد

    أبت أن تغل

    And within us is a hand

    that refused to be shackled.

  19. بها في الوغى

    رددنا الغيل!

    With it, in battle,

    we repelled treacherous assaults!

  20. وكم في العلى

    لنا من مثل

    And how many, in glory,

    are the examples we have!

  21. أبى جدنا

    علينا الهزل

    Our earnestness forbade

    frivolity to us.

  22. فأخلاقنا

    بدت كالشعل

    So our virtues

    appeared like flames;

  23. كشفنا بها

    جميع الظلل

    with them we dispelled

    all the shadows.

  24. وترياقنا

    يزيل العلل

    And our antidote

    banishes ailments.

  25. وتأييدنا

    جرى في الازل!

    And our support

    has flowed from eternity.

  26. به ربنا

    لنا قد كفل

    For it, our Lord

    has indeed given us His guarantee.

  27. فسبحانه

    إلها عدل!

    So glory be to Him,

    a God who is just!

  28. أنار النهى

    لنا والمقل

    He illumined the minds

    and the eyes for us.

  29. وإحسانه

    إلينا اتصل

    And His beneficence

    has reached us unbroken.

  30. وقرآنه

    علينا نزل

    And His Qur'an

    has come down to us.

  31. لقد خصنا

    بخير الملل

    He has indeed favored us

    with the best of faiths,

  32. ولم يفترض

    بها من ثقل

    nor did He impose

    any burden within it.

  33. فلا نبتغي

    بها من بدل

    So we seek no

    substitute for it.

  34. حنيف الورى

    أبونا الأجل

    The upright believer among humankind,

    our most venerable father,

  35. بنى ركنها

    لنا فاعتدل

    built its pillar

    for us, and it stood upright.

  36. وبالمصطفى

    هداها اكتمل

    And through the Chosen One,

    its guidance became complete.

  37. أتت أرضنا

    كصبح أطل

    It came to our land

    like a dawn that rose,

  38. فأمست بها

    كخلد رفل

    so through it our land became

    like a paradise robed in splendor.

  39. وإفريقيا

    بلاد الغلل

    And Africa

    is a land of woodland streams,

  40. وأرض بها

    رؤى لا تمل

    and a land where

    the sights never grow tiresome.

  41. ففاخر بها

    عداك العذل

    So boast of it;

    may reproach spare you.

  42. وسل برقة

    وطنجة سل

    And ask Barqa,

    and ask Tangier,

  43. وما حدتا

    بها من دول

    and all that they bounded

    of states within it.

  44. سل الكل عن

    سلام وصل

    Ask them all about

    a peace that arrived,

  45. ودين أتى

    وكفر رحل

    and a faith that came,

    and unbelief that departed;

  46. وعن عقبة

    بها حيث حل

    and about Uqba,

    wherever he settled in it;

  47. وحساننا

    وموسى البطل

    and our Hassan,

    and Musa the hero;

  48. وعن طارق

    نزيل الجبل

    and about Tariq,

    who lodged on the mountain,

  49. خطيب الوغى

    بليغ الجمل

    the orator of battle,

    eloquent in his phrases;

  50. وأجناده

    تسل الأسل

    and his troops,

    drawing their spears.

  51. ولذريق في

    ذراه اختبل

    And Roderic, amid

    his heights, lost his senses;

  52. وضاقت به

    جميع الحيل

    and closed to him were

    all stratagems.

  53. وإذ طارق

    عليه حمل

    And when Tariq

    charged against him,

  54. أحل الردى

    به فانجدل

    he brought death

    upon him, and he fell.

  55. فهذا قضى

    وهذا ارتحل

    So one perished,

    and another departed,

  56. وهذا عنا

    له وامتثل

    and another submitted

    to him and obeyed.

  57. وحل الهدى

    جميع الحلل

    And guidance took up residence

    in every settlement.

  58. أرى حضرا

    على الغيب دل

    I see a present reality

    that points toward the unseen.

  59. أرى فجرنا

    بدا واستهل

    I see our dawn

    has appeared and broken.

  60. تلمسان قد

    غدت في جذل

    Tlemcen has indeed

    become joyful.

  61. غدت غادة

    صباها اقتبل

    She has become a maiden

    whose youth has just begun.

  62. بدت في الحلى

    لنا والحلل

    She appeared in jewels

    and robes before us.

  63. حمى كانف

    لنا لم يزل

    A sheltering sanctuary,

    it has always been for us.

  64. فصل أعظما

    عليها اشتمل

    So visit the bones

    that it has enfolded.

  65. أيا نجل صن

    حمى من نجل

    O son, preserve

    the homeland of him who begot you.

  66. وحي اسمه

    بأزكى القبل

    And hail his name

    with the purest kisses.

  67. وهم في الحمى

    هوى لا تبل

    And be enamored of the homeland

    with love from which you never recover.

  68. فؤادي اكتوى

    به واشتعل

    My heart was scorched

    by it, and burst into flame.

  69. وبالنفس ما

    بها من ثمل

    And in my soul—what

    intoxication lies within!

  70. فيا ناهلا

    سقيت العلل

    So, O drinker,

    may you be given further draughts!

  71. ويا عاملا

    وقيت الزلل

    And, O worker,

    may you be spared missteps!

  72. تكثر قوى

     فمن قل ذل

    Multiply your forces,

    for the few are humbled.
