O you who turn toward poetry—how sweet a string you are,

That sang, bringing delight to the ear—and to the eye!

How can you flee, when this garden enchants us,

Lush with the flowers and fruit within it!

Indeed, you are a symbol of poetry, long aspired to

By souls and thoughts of every kind!

Give up fleeing, and delight us with one masterpiece

After another, with the pearls it holds!
