إنمـا بالسِّرِّ بـوحي
Drive me mad, and rest easy.
Torment me and find relief
Drive me mad, then take your rest,
Confide only in secret.
I only confess in secret
But only in secret reveal it.

حبـنا وهْـمٌ غَـيومٌ

لم يمـلْ نحـو الوضوحِ
Our love is a cloudy illusion
Our love is an illusion of clouds
Our love is an illusion, mere clouds,
That has not inclined toward clarity.
That never inclines toward clarity
That never leaned toward clarity.

Reproach the plight of a longing
Reproach the state of a wan, languid lover
Reproach these states of passion,
Pale, frail, crippled.
These are the phantoms of an illness
Pale, feeble, and crippled.

These are specters of a sickness
That plagues, I weep and wail
These are the phantoms of an illness,
Looming—weep and wail.
Give me a choice between death
Sudden and looming; weep and wail.

Give me the choice between death
Or life, then revive me
Give me a choice, between a death
Or life; then wander.
And remember me, each day
Or a life, and then roam free.

And remember me every day,
And hear the pulse of the wounded one
And remember me, every single day,
And listen to the wounded one's pulse.
My eyes, my imagination
And listen to the pulse of the wounded.

Beware suppressing ambition
O my eyes, O my imagination,
Beware of stifling ambition.
You are an angel in my eyes
Beware of stifling ambition.

You are an angel in my eyes.
You are my soul, do not go
You are an angel in my eyes,
You are my soul; do not go.
Oh angel of love, cure
You are my soul, so do not depart.

O angel of love, heal
The illness of a delirious one
O angel of love, bring healing to
The ailment of a forgiving madman.
So pity my weakness and condition
The illness of a forgiving madman.

So have mercy on my weakness and my circumstances,
And ask my tear's forgiveness
Have mercy on my weakness and my plight,
And ask my forgiving tears.
Reprimand me, shun me
And ask my generous, pouring tears.

حَسْبُ ،شنـقي لا تبيحي
Quarrel with me; cut me off.
Enough, hang me, do not permit it
Quarrel with me, sever ties with me,
Enough—do not permit my hanging.
You are a flower, you are a rose
Enough—but do not sanction my hanging.

زهرتي ، بالعفو فـوحي
You are Arabian jasmine; you are roses.
My blossom, with pardon, bloom
You are jasmine, you are a rose,
My flower, be fragrant with forgiveness.
Standing, counting my wounds
My blossom, exhale the scent of pardon.

واقـفٌ أحصي جروحي
Here I am, a patient slave,
What closeness, what union
Here I am, a patient servant,
Standing, I count my wounds.
Is up to the merciful command
Standing, counting up my wounds.

Any nearness, any union—
My ship is a fortress, come up
Any closeness, any union,
It is a comforting thing.
And accept the betrayal of departure
Is indeed a comforting matter.

فاقبلي غدر الجـنوحِ!
My boat is a fortress; come.
If you see an opening soon
My vessel is a fortress, come,
So accept the treachery of running aground!
Go, do not strike my head
And accept the treachery of straying!

If you see a victory close at hand,
And act wisely at times
If you see a victory drawing near,
Look—do not send my head tumbling.
And leave the rule of madness
Consider! Do not sever my head.

And act on reason for a while,
And act upon reason for a while,
And abandon the rule of recklessness.
And abandon the rule of wild caprice.
