Whoever is arrogant is a burden to all mankind.

And were the earth just, it would have swallowed his body.

And if the sinners knew that, in their vilest abode,

This much-reviled man was their companion, they would not consent.

So, O affliction of whoever gazes at the ugliness of his face,

And O you whom all mankind is duty-bound to hate!

The whole world has indeed grown narrow for me,

Because of his character—and so have the air, length, and breadth.
