اليومَ قد جاوزْتُ مِن

اليومَ قد جاوزْتُ مِن

سبعين عاماً في العَددْ

سبعين عاماً في العَددْ

Today I have gone beyond

Today I have passed

Seventy years in number.

Seventy years in number

والمرْءُ مهمَا جاوز

والمرْءُ مهمَا جاوز

السنَّ الكثيرَ فقدْ فَقدْ

السنَّ الكثيرَ فقدْ فَقدْ

And a man, whenever he passes

And however much a person passes

Beyond advanced age, has indeed suffered loss.

Many years, he has lost

لا تَعْجَبَا مِن عادَةِ

لا تَعْجَبَا مِن عادَةِ

الدنيا إذا طال الأمَدْ

الدنيا إذا طال الأمَدْ

Do not marvel, you two, at the way

Do not be surprised at the custom

Of the world when time grows long.

Of the world if the time is long

هُنِّيتُما بالعيد لا

هُنِّيتُما بالعيد لا

زالَتْ عوائِدُه تَرِدْ

زالَتْ عوائِدُه تَرِدْ

Congratulations to you both on the feast; may

I congratulated you on the feast

Its bounties continue to come.

Its habits still come

لابدَّ لي من زَوْرةٍ

لابدَّ لي من زَوْرةٍ

يُطْفا بها جمرُ الكَمدْ

يُطْفا بها جمرُ الكَمدْ

I cannot do without a visit,

I must make a visit

By which the embers of grief are quenched.

With which the embers of yearning are extinguished

وعلى الشيوخ سَلامُنا

وعلى الشيوخ سَلامُنا

يَغْشاهُمُ طولَ الأبَدْ

يَغْشاهُمُ طولَ الأبَدْ

And upon the elders be our greeting of peace,

And upon the elders our greetings

Enveloping them for all eternity.

Envelop them for all time

ثم الصلاة على النبيّ

ثم الصلاة على النبيّ

الأرْيَحيّ المُعتمَدْ

الأرْيَحيّ المُعتمَدْ

Then blessings upon the Prophet,

Then prayers upon the prophet

The magnanimous, the trusted.
