The heart has grown sick from separation.

And this body of mine remains emaciated,

through parting from one who left the heart distraught,

    sick, sorrowful, lovelorn and ailing.

O far-off one, my tears have streamed into the dust,

and there become rain and torrents.

O stealer of our souls, be gentle! You have indeed

    left me humbled until death.

in the heart, which seeks no substitute for you.

and my fortitude, reason and understanding.

And leave off blame: I am indeed tormented.

No wonder I have become lovesick and distraught

through parting from one who left my heart wasted,

protector among all creation and humankind.

path to union with the one my heart loves.

until I became one soothed with hopes, wearisome to others.

you journeyed away from us, not wishing to return.

bound by your love, where you intend to settle.

might behold your beauty—may you never lack acceptance!
